The
2nd Global Conference on Biofortification kicks off today in the Rwandan capital, Kigali. Over 270 high-level stakeholders drawn from government, business and civil society will spend the next three days deliberating on how best to expand the delivery of nutritious foods to reach more of the two billion people who suffer from micronutrient deficiency (hidden hunger).
We are pleased that the Prime Minister of Rwanda, Dr. Pierre Habumuremyi, will officially open the conference, and that Rwandan Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Dr. Agnes Kalibata, will make a keynote address. Other high profile speakers include:
- - Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, renowned agricultural scientist and father of India’s green revolution;
- - Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, Nigeria’s globally respected Minister of Agriculture and Forbes Africa Person of the Year 2013; and,
- - Dr. Chris Elias, President of Global Development at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
